The dealing with the past project is a collaboration between swisspeace and IFE. swisspeace is a practice-oriented peace research institute. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement of the conflict prevention and conflict transformation.

The foundation conducts research and provides expert support in Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America. The activities conducted in those areas vary from research, expert support, spaces for dialogue and peace-building parliamentary groups.

In this collaboration with IFE, swisspeace will facilitate the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Dealing with the past activities.

The importance of preserving archives and records concerning human rights violations and violations of international humanitarian law in the aftermath of armed conflict or authoritarian regimes is often underestimated and forgotten. Technical issues such as the preservation and management of archives are as important as policy questions related to their access, ownership and location. We are constantly developing and increasing our capacities regarding information management, documentation, archives and memory in dealing with the past processes. We play a vital hub function, responding to requests from partners and connecting experts with contexts.
